More about this event

The integument or skin is the envelope that separates and protects a fish from its environment, but also provides the means through which most of the contacts with the outer world are made. In addition to protective functions, the skin of a fish may serve important roles in communication, sensory perception, locomotion, ion regulation and excretion. A basic understanding of the large, multifunctional and complex integumentary system is essential for fish health management. This webinar will cover principal features of microscopic functional anatomy of cellular and non-cellular elements of integument of major fish taxa, from primitive jawless fishes to higher teleosts, including common elements as well as differences among the various taxa.
