Presentation Synopsis:

Marine gill diseases have become significant health challenges for the European salmon aquaculture industry. The complexity of marine gill diseases makes it challenging to develop understanding of the disease(s) and its risk factors. This talk will provide an overview of marine gill diseases in Atlantic salmon, risk factors for marine gill diseases, and will highlight some recent developments in research.

  1. Become familiar with different types of marine gill disease and risk factors.
  2. Understand the multifactorial nature of Complex Gill Disease.
  3. Learn about different diagnostic tests.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Boerlage is an Aquatic Epidemiologist working at Scotland’s Rural College, Inverness, UK. She obtained her MSc. in Aquaculture & Fisheries, and PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology, both at Wageningen University, the Netherlands, and has worked in Vietnam and Canada. She aims to use epidemiology to deliver evidence-based information to benefit health management in aquaculture and improve sustainability of the sector.
