Synopsis;

Amphibians are a unique and challenging group of animals to work with in a captive setting. This webinar will focus on both the details around how to provide appropriate husbandry in a captive setting for a variety of amphibian species. We will dig into the details of UV lighting, insectivore nutrition, and bioactive enclosures. We’ll also discuss the most common illness conditions of captive amphibians including clinical signs, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

  2. Providing appropriate nutrition specific to amphibians
  3. Identify common illness conditions in amphibians

Speaker Bio:

Nicholas A. Jew, DVM, is an Avian & Exotics Veterinarian at MedVet Hilliard where he has been a part of the team since 2021.

Dr. Nicholas Jew attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering: Cell & Bimolecular. He then earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to joining MedVet, Dr. Jew practiced at Norton Road Veterinary Hospital in Galloway, OH, and Animal Care Unlimited in Columbus, OH in addition to providing exotics veterinary consultation.

Dr. Nicholas Jew has a special interest in reptile medicine and surgery, husbandry of reptiles and amphibians, and the use of full spectrum ultraviolet (UV) radiation for exotic animals. His favorite part of veterinary medicine is educating owners and veterinary professionals about the importance of appropriate husbandry of exotic animals as well as providing state-of-the-art medical care for exotic animals.

Dr. Jew is working toward specialty board certification through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Reptile & Amphibian. In practice, Dr. Jew commonly works with a variety of reptiles, amphibians, ornamental fish, exotic companion mammals, and birds.

In his spare time, Dr. Nicholas Jew enjoys fencing, reading, and being outdoors.
