Synopsis:

In this lecture, data on known contact-zoonotic bacterial infections of fish and their resulting zoonosis are presented, with their diagnosis, and prevention.

This WebCEPD in organized in partnership with the European Association of Fish Pathologists.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Warmwater fish may cause contact-zoonosis.
  2. Diagnosis of fish contact-zoonosis.
  3. Prevention of fish contact-zoonosis.

Speaker Bio:

Since 1985, Olga L.M. Haenen is all-round fish disease expert as head of the National Reference Laboratory for Fish Diseases of Wageningen Bioveterinary Research, Lelystad, The Netherlands. Her PhD-thesis (1995) was on Anguillicoloides crassus. She (co)published > 85 papers on viruses, bacteria and parasites of eels, cyprinids, and ornamental fish, including on contact zoonotic bacteria. She is (inter)national advisor for EU, WOAH and FAO and research funders, and is EAFP honorary member since 2019. She is also expert on veterinary and One Health risks in insect culture for food and feed. Olga is married with Frank and they have three adult children.
