The 12th Aquaculture insurance risk management conference took place in Kinsale, Ireland over two days at the end of March.
10 veterinary surgeons from around the world were among the many delegates from insurance companies who attended this conference and enjoyed two days of stimulating presentations ranging from health issues, to insurance and legal matters. Whilst one might expect this conference to be of interest only to insurers there was much of interest for veterinarians.
This was the third time that WAVMA had been asked to provide a presentation and this time it was on biosecurity. The involvement of WAVMA underlies the importance that AUMS (the conference organisers) give to the involvement of veterinarians in aquaculture businesses and the benefits that could be provided to the aquaculture insurance industry through potentially lowering disease clams which account for 40% of insurance losses.
