Student Support from WAVMA

Part of WAVMA’s Education and Student Committee, the Student Support sub-committee (SSSC) role is to support and coordinate WAVMA Student Chapters. This involves making sure the contact details displayed on the Student chapters page are up to date and advising on how to best make use of the benefits of WAVMA student chapters. The ones closely associated with the SSSC are:

  • Assistance in organizing and promoting Chapter programs and activities.
  • Mini Grants of up to 500 USD are available to assist official WAVMA Student Chapters with conducting activities intended to engage students in opportunities related to aquatic veterinary medicine.
  • 50% Chapter member’s dues may be available to support Chapter-organized activities.
  • Aquatic veterinary externship and job listings.
  • Participation in the WAVMA Certified Aquatic Veterinarian (CertAqV) Program.

There are further student chapter benefits which can be seen on the Student Chapter page.

Periodically, but at least once per year the SSSC produces a Newsletter focusing on the benefits students can get from joining WAVMA. You automatically gain access to new newsletters by joining WAVMA. If you prefer not to join WAVMA you can sign up for the newsletter here.

If you are a veterinary student interested in aquatic veterinary medicine, then being a WAVMA student member can help get your career off the ground. Not only through the benefits of student chapters, but the networking you can achieve with other members, and other educational services WAVMA provides such as WebCEPD where you can access over 200 hours of webinar material, and the CertAqV which will help you stand out to prospective employers.
