The student will work with the veterinary staff of 1 veterinarians and 2 veterinary technicians four days per week assisting with examinations and procedures of marine and exotic animals. The student will also assist with live or deceased stranded sea turtles and/or cetaceans as needed. A short paper on a topical literature search will be completed and presented to Gulf World staff at the end of the internship. One day per week will be spent assisting the education department with Vet Camp, a program that introduces elementary and middle school aged students to aquatic medicine. The student will lead the veterinary portion of the camp with assistance from the veterinary team as necessary.
Marine and exotic animals including dolphins, seals, penguins and other birds, reptiles, and fish.
Must have complicated at least one year of veterinary school, have experience with aquatic and/or exotic animals and basic clinical exam skills, and have at least basic knowledge of veterinary equipment including microscopy, radiology and ultrasonography.
