The increase in fishing activities, tourism, pollution, habitat disturbance, and accelerated coastal development are some of the main threats of anthropogenic origin that sea turtles face in Mexico. Turtles arriving injured on Mexican coasts are frequently observed , including those of the Gulf of Mexico. For more than 10 years, we have been working on the medical and rehabilitation program for sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico in coordination with turtle groups and authorities in charge of the conservation and protection of these specimens in the State of Veracruz. This program is essential to mitigate threats of anthropogenic origin, recover the health status of sea turtles that arrive sick or injured, know their health conditions and has important applications for the medical treatment and rehabilitation of turtles that become stranded in the region.
