CertAqV passes – No one was awarded the CertAqV this month as applications are only reviewed every two months by the Executive Board.  All CertAqV should be listed on www.wavma.org/CertAqV-Pgm, please check if you are listed. This page automatically updates depending on whether you meet the criteria for CertAqV (been awarded and a current WAVMA member). The page also provides information on how to become CertAqV.

Executive Board meeting – was held on the 20th October. Topics discussed included:

Further actions from ISAAH 9 activities, including approval of a suggested collaboration with MEVEA.

Discussion of the upcoming WAVMA conference and extension of the deadline for abstract submission and possible discounts on registration. Fuller information on the conference has been circulated through WAVMA’s Members-L.

Discussion on the proposed CertAqVN/T and the initial review (through the Credentialling Committee) of two candidates moving forward.

Notification that the Fall round of 2022 WAVMA Student Chapter Mini Grant applications was now open.

A report that the British Veterinary Association (BVA) had withdrawn a proposal to ban the capture of wild fish for ornamental purposes. This was a joint effort between the UK Fish Veterinary Society, WAVMA and trade organisations.

A report that the European College of Aquatic Animal Health (ECAAH) wished to explore collaboration with WAVMA and possibly provide WebCEPD content.  

Discussion of the draft World Veterinary Association (WVA) position statement on One Health. The EB is considering its response. Multiple documents provided by WVA on One Health topics can be found here.

Monthly Webinar – The next WAVMA webinar will be held on the 28th  October at 2.00pm UTC. The topic will be on “Microsporidiosis in the shrimp industry”. Please see www.wavma.org/WebCEPD to register for it. This webinar will provide 1 hours CPD/CEPD if you complete the short KSA (quiz) after watching it. Registration for the webinar is free. WAVMA members can watch recordings of the webinar for free and non-members will have to pay a charge.

WAVMA Conference – WAVMA will hold a conference from the 3rd to the 7th of December 2022 in South Africa. This will be both “in-person” and “virtual”. Please visit https://wavma2022.co.za for further information.
