Synopsis:

Quality and safety are a key aspect to consider when supplying any food to consumers. In aquaculture, it starts from seed production to a table of consumers. Its therefore important to pay key attention to all the steps, mechanisms, systems including fish health management structures that are involved in production of farmed aquatic foods in this current blue economy.

Learning Objectives:

To provide learners with knowledge that relates

  1. production systems to quality and safety of farmed fish products
  2. health management systems to quality and safety of farmed fish products
  3. quality and safety management systems in farmed fish production to the Blue economy structures

Speaker Bio:

Rosemary Nalwanga holds a PhD in Environmental Health from RCSI-Ireland; MSc. in Environmental Sciences: Limnology and wetland ecosystems from UNESCO-IHE, The Netherlands; and BSc. Fisheries and Aquaculture from Makerere University. She has specialized in Water Resources Management with a special interest in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) management systems; Fish safety, processing and value addition; Water Quality; Aquaculture and adaptations to climate change with 15 years of experience. She has published over 10 papers and mentored over 8 MSc students in areas of  fish safety management systems, WaSH (water, sanitation and hygiene), Aquaculture and climate change. Currently a PI of a project on management of antimicrobial resistance in refugee settlements in Uganda.
