After careful consideration the WAVMA Executive Board has decided that the AGM will be held during the AVMA Convention in St Louis this year. The decision was made so as to provide the widest access for members to WAVMA meetings this year.
The AGM is usually held during the WAVMA annual scientific meeting which this year will be held in South Africa during the World Veterinary Congress in October. The Board felt the high cost of registration for the WVC coupled with travel costs might disuade some members from attending and the AVMA Convention provided easier travel and lower costs to members wishing to attend. Another advantage is that WAVMA will be present and active at two of the major veterinary meetings this year and able to better promote aquatic veterinary medicine.
This year WAVMA will also hold satelite meetings during Aquaculture America and SAVMA as well as being involved in the IABC (International Aquaculture Biosecurity Conference) meeting in Norway during Aqua-Nor. Additionally Board members have been asked to speak at EAFP (European Association of Fish Pathologists) and AIRM (Aquaculture Insurance Risk Management) conferences.
