Plans for the 2nd IABC Conference to be held in Trondheim, Norway, August 14-15 2011 at the same time as Aqua-Nor, the largest aquaculture trade show, are well underway. This year will see the conference split in to two seperate parts. The first two days will have a program of internationally-recognized speakers and contributed posters on the following topics.

  • Components of Ideal Biosecurity Plans and Programs
  • Determining and Mitigating Critical Control Points and Risks of Disease Introduction
  • Surveillance, Monitoring and Determining Disease Status/Freedom

  • National and International Biosecurity Strategies
  • Contingency Plans for the Control and Eradication of Disease

The organisers (of which WAVMA is one) state that the "goal of the conference is to provide science-based expert opinion and tools for implementing practical, economic and effective biosecurity plans and programs".

Following on will be the 1st IABC Workshop on August 16-17 which as well as didactic learning and table-top exercises on the principles of biosecurity will also include site visits allowing participants to see and review biosecurity practices from "farm to fork".The site visits will include operations and farms from broodstock to slaughter.

The program looks excellent and coupled with the limited availability of places for the workshop which requires attendence at the conference you are encouraged to book early. Further details can be found at www.iabconference.org
