A Call to Assist Nepal Earthquake Victims

We at WAVMA are saddened by the news of the earthquake in Nepal. The devastation is profound and recovery may take years. Part of our global veterinary family that live there is the Veterinary Practitioner Association of Nepal (VPAN). In addition, last year one of the recipients of the WAVMA scholarship was a Nepalese student, Mr Najim Sekh, currently enrolled as a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry student at the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Tribhuvan University, Rampur, Chitwan. We know he is alive and safe.

We urge our members to assist by supporting their local Red Cross and international charities that are announced in reputable sources. We have been informed that the World Animal Protection (WAP) has sent a Disaster Assessment and Response Team which arrived in Kathmandu on April 28 to carry out a disaster assessment and needs analysis.

WAVMA endeavors to work with the WSAVA and other sister organizations in the future in any operation aimed at addressing veterinary medicine and public health in Nepal.
